Because it provides a very revealing look into where we are on several fronts of my 20-month-old daughter M-'s advanced development, I thought I'd share this short conversation that took place recently after I brushed a couple of leaves off the trunk of our car:
M-: Ow, Dad!! Dad-- ow.
Me: What's wrong, honey?
M- (gesturing to her outstretched foot): You frew the leafs at my shoe.
Me: ... Oh... sorry.
M-: Thank you.
oh my! how could you? that poor baby!
ReplyDeleteShe seriously talks in sentences like that at 20 months??? She is advanced!
ReplyDeleteHa. She doesn't cry when you cut her nails or hair does she? My nephew did that. Screamed bloody murder because it hurt so much to have his hair cut.
ReplyDeleteYou need to get one of those newfangled Leaf Frowers. Then things like this wouldn't happen.
ReplyDeleteThat's so adorable:) She really must be very smart to talk like this at this age;)
ReplyDeleteMean Daddy! How dare you throw leaves at that polite little child's feet. You should be sorry!
ReplyDeleteNah, Mr. B loves to play in the leaves! We spend plenty of time just sitting and tearing up leaves too.
ReplyDeleteYou have a 20 month old with manners! Share the secrets!
ReplyDeleteAnyone else thinking of the princess and the pea?
ReplyDeleteHow DARE you frow leafs at her SHOE in such a haphazard manner?
ReplyDeleteThose leafs are freaking dangerous.
Oh, and by the way? Gifted Children can become very, very difficult because they will be smarter than you by kindergarten. Just sayin'.
You are so lucky that she can express herself in words. My almost 2 1/2 daughter still doesn't speak that well. Sometimes it is a bit frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI've got Social Services on the line, Dan.
ReplyDeleteThey want to know exactly how many leaves and how often this has occurred.
I need dates and times, man.

How dare you throw leaves at her por litte shoe!! Funny, Chris. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm gonna have to go with the flow here and ask why in the world would you throw leaves at a baby?! Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteHey! Your daughter is cute!
ReplyDeleteHaven't you been reading all of the articles about leaf damage to toddlers? Every fall, the stories come out...
ReplyDeleteAnd those leafs hurt!!
ReplyDeleteYou are about as cruel as they come, old man!
ReplyDeleteShe must have been wearing her Crocs... those holes can make a child feel very vulnerable.
ReplyDeleteWow, my twenty-one month old doesn't say much. Well he does, but I don't understand much of what he's trying to say.
ReplyDeleteWe shoe fanatics are very particular about our prized footware and I'm sure she appreciated that fact that you quickly realized the heinous nature of your wrongdoing!
ReplyDeleteYou've gotta watch out for those leaves... they look so innocent...
ReplyDeleteBut that's when the GETCHA!
She's a princess.
ReplyDeleteA pure, honest to Betsy - PRINCESS.
And she deserves to be treated like one, so listen up ... no more leaf tossing at shoes.
K?
How dare you "frow leafs" on her shoe? You are so in trouble with that one.
ReplyDeletewhat are these leaves on the ground you speak of? is that something that happens up north?
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought my 21-month-old was coming along pretty well in the language department, and you had to blow it for me. Thanks, LD!
ReplyDeleteYou'd better watch your back. She might retaliate and throw a few back!
Really, some people, frowing leafs at innocent children! (How's that for hate mail?)
ReplyDeleteAren't kids grand. Mine yell at me when I try to cool of their soup and they complain that I am blowing in their face!
ReplyDeleteUngrateful wretches! :)
Off to call CPS....
ReplyDeleteYour kids are all super-smart! What the heck do you feed them? At 20 months M already expresses herself that well AND she's figured out the fine art of manipulation! Afterall, the damsel in distress is a real killer ;-)
ReplyDeleteI really would love to meet your family, you guys all sound awesome!
