Tossin' around the ol' groundhogskin

In honor of this most somber of all major holidays, I'd like to set a moment aside to recognize the sacrifices of the many brave groundhogs who have fought and died for this country over the years, gnawing tiny paths to the heart of freedom so that its light might shine upon the darkest corners of the world.

Or, wait... let me read that page again... Nevermind.

In other news, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers for coldly robbing the Arizona Cardinals* of their one triumphant moment in the accursed half-century since they turned tail and abandoned Chicago.

Sorry as everyone may feel for them right now after a remarkable postseason and a fantastic championship game, they knew what they were getting into when they hit the bricks for St. Louis (before moving on to retirement in the desert).

Regardless of all this ancient history, I was still a neutral fan this year, nursing a broken heart since my team, the Giant Foam Cowboys, didn't go all the way:
Rooting for the Giant Foam Cowboys in Super Bowl XLIII
And now, to instead honor the other Groundhog Day, you should read this post again, ad infinitum, until you Learn Something Important.

* My condolences, of course, go out to Renee, beth, and any other Arizona residents/Cardinals fans reading out there.

Holy sh*t! You are a real person. Here I was thinking you were just a set of eyes.

In all seriousness, you are a Bears fan, right?

Love the foam hat.

I see Literal Dan's five o'clock shadow. Looks like there will be six more weeks of blogging.

Condolences appreciated. I don't really "get" football, but my brother-in-law looked like he was going to cry. Last night, Arizona was a little bit like the Christmas you found out Santa wasn't real. You knew it was silly, but you wanted to believe so badly...

I would like to drink to that HAT. Or FROM that hat. That would be an experience. How about some sympathy for a lifelong Lion's fan???

I hate groundhogs.

I do, however, love the giant foam hat. Priceless!

Glad you all liked the hat-- it's a prop that renders all setups unworthy. I always wanted one, and my sister gave it to me for my last birthday.

I saw it on the shelf before heading out to watch the game at my parents' house yesterday, and the twinkle in its star told me it was time to debut it on the blog.

Miss Grace, you should try wearing the hat. It's just as awesome as it looks.

Rikki, have no fear, I am no traitor. And there's another unmasked picture of me here.

Middle Aged Woman, you'll get no sympathy for the Lions here. Not that you genuinely expected any, of course.

Next time, just the hat.

Thanks.

My husband wanted the Steelers to lose so badly, because his two best friends and a guy at the office are huge Steelers fans. Unfortunately, his Cowboys didn't allow him much smack-talk ammo this year, so he was hoping to at least give the guys a hard time for losing the big one. No such luck. And, I'm the one who suffers!

Once when I was in college, I was sitting at a picnic table in the quad and I heard a strange clucking noise approaching me. I turned around to see a groundhog charging directly at me. I screamed and jumped up onto the table while the groundhog ran under the table and continued on his path, clucking all the way, to the other side of the quad. Ever since then, I've been terrified of groundhogs. Needless to say, this is a painful holiday for me.

And I don't even want to talk about those rotten Steelers, who robbed my Ravens of their day in the sun.

OMG--you showed your face?! What is going on? What happened to the mystery? Love the hat, by the way...so, is there 6 more weeks of winter...or 6 more weeks of winter? I can never figure it out.
